Brian Emerson

Community Food Systems Manager


As the Community Food Systems Manager for Utahns Against Hunger (UAH), Brian works on community-level initiatives to improve low-income households’ access to food. He is currently engaged in a statewide assessment process to help identify local barriers and opportunities for increasing food access in communities throughout Utah.

Previously, Brian managed Utah Double Up Food Bucks, a statewide SNAP-match produce incentive program offered at farmers’ markets and farm stands. He has over a decade of experience working on food systems issues in the non-profit sector, both locally and internationally. He has studied food policy, sustainability and access issues at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and holds professional certificates in community economic development and cooperative enterprise development.

Brian is a member of the Salt Lake City Food Policy Task Force and an active participant of the Distribution/Food Access Working Group of the state Local Food Advisory Council, among other groups and coalitions.
